Solution:
- First, figure out the starting point and the direction. Then, count one by one in order until you find the correct gem. What color is the 2nd gem if we count from right to left? Let's start counting from the right and look for the 2nd gem. The 1st gem is yellow, and the 2nd gem is green.
To describe where the red gem is, first find it. Then, choose one of the two possible directions: is it from left to right, or from right to left? From left to right, the red gem is the 2nd. From right to left, the red gem is the 4th.
- What color is the 5th gem if we count from bottom to top? First, start counting from the bottom. Then, look for the 5th gem. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, the 5th gem is blue.
From bottom to top, the yellow gem is the 4th. From top to bottom, the yellow gem is the 2nd.
Solution:
- We usually call the top row in a table row 1. Below row 1 are row 2 and row 3, so there are 3 rows in total. The leftmost column is called column 1. To the right of column 1 are column 2, column 3, and column 4, so there are 4 columns in total. This table has 3 rows and 4 columns. In row 3 column 2, there is an apple.
- First, find the peach. Counting from the top, 1, 2... it is in row 2. Counting from the left, 1, 2, 3... it is in column 3. So, the peach is in row 2 column 3.
